Hafiz Rehmat Khan, ruler of the Independent Kingdom Rohilakhand

Independent Kingdom Rohilkhand was situated in the north-western region of India. During the medieval period, it was an independent kingdom of India. Rohilkhand was named after the Afghan tribe ‘Rohilla’; ‘Roh’ means mountain and Rohilla means a mountaineer in Pashto.

Hafiz Rehmat Khan ruled Independent Kingdom Rohilakhand between 1749 and 1774. He served almost three Mughal rulers, Ahmad Shah Bahadur, Alamgir II, and Shah Alam II, during his rule. He had also served as a mentor of Prince Mirza Jawan Bakht.

This silver rupee was issued by Hafiz Rehmat Khan, during his rule in Independent Kingdom Rohilkhand. This silver which weighs around 11.21g was minted in Bareli. Hafiz Rehmat Khan issued his coin with the name of Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II. The obverse side of these coins inscribed with the name and title of Mughal Emperor, Shah Alam II. The reverse side of this coin is inscribed with the mint name Bareli and RY 11.
