Birth Anniversary of Keshub Chandra Sen

Keshub Chandra Sen was one of the most prominent and influential social reformers & religious leaders in Bengal in the 19th century. He was born on 19 November 1838 in an affluent family in Calcutta. He was a brilliant writer having the tremendous ability to clarify Brahmo's ideology.

In 1855 at the age of 17, he established the British India Society. Later, in 1857, he joined Brahmo Samaj and became its active member. He set up many educational, social and spiritual institutions.

He founded an evening school for the children of working men in 1855. In 1854 he was also briefly appointed as Secretary of the Asiatic Society. He was not only a religious and social reformer but also a profound nationalist.

The Government of India issued his commemorative stamp in 1980 to commemorate him and his work.
