2022-11-17 Thu

The Suez Canal is an artificial waterway located in Egypt. It connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea through the Isthmus of Suez divides Asia and Africa. It is a popular trade route between Asia and Europe. The Suez Canal was inaugurated for the first time on 17th November 1869. This canal offered a direct route between the North Atlantic and Northern Indian oceans, passing via the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, avoiding the Southern Atlantic and Southern Indian oceans, reducing the distance of the journey.

This centenary stamp on Suez Canal was issued by Egypt on 17 November 1969. The face value of this stamp is 20 Egypt millime. The stamps feature two boats in the centre, a map of Egypt and its neighbouring countries to the right side and workers within the circle who contributed to the making of the Suez Canal.
