James Graham Ballard was born on 15th November 1930. He was an English novelist, short story writer, essayist and satirist. James Graham Ballard is well known for his work, which was provocative fiction and explored relations between human psychology, technology and mass media.

He got broader recognition in 1984 for his war novel Empire of the Sun. He even won the Guardian Fiction Prize and James Tait Black Memorial Prize for this novel. He won various other awards over his lifetime for his writings. The above commemorative stamp was issued on the 'The Drowned World', which is science fiction by novelist G.J.
