Guru Nanak Dev, also known as Bana Nanak, was the first Guru of Sikhs, the founder of the Sikh way of life and belief. He was born in 1469 AD in Talwandi, today in Pakistan, known as Nanak sahib.This first of the tenth Sikh Guru won many hearts through hymns of love and brotherhood spread like fragrance. He promoted equality, fraternal love, goodness, and virtue in life. He travelled extensively to teach the concept of one God who resides in all his creations. In Guru Grant Sahib, a holy text of Sikhism, he has composed around 974 poetic hymns.
The Department of Posts and telegraphs issued this notable stamp of 20 paisa denomination in 1969 to mark the 500th Birth anniversary of Guru Nanak sahib.
