Even after India achieved independence on 15th August 1947, there were immediate changes in the Indian coinage system. India continued to issue coins with the bust of King George VI, with the date 1947’.On 26th January 1950, when India declared itself a Republic country, a series of new coins were issued in the denomination of Single Pike, Half Anna, One Anna, Two Annas, Quarter Rupee, Half Rupee and One Rupee. The new coins bear the design of ‘Lion Capital of Asoka’ on the obverse.
This Copper-Nickel, two Anna, was minted in Bombay in 1955. The obverse side of this coin depicts the Lion capital of Asoka, with the legend ‘GOVERNMENT OF INDIA’ around the periphery. The reverse side of this coin features a bull in the center. The value coin written in English and Hindi appears at the top and the year of issue at the bottom.
