Commemorative Stamp on Diwali

Diwali is one of the biggest and most important festivals in India. It is known as the Festival of Light and is celebrated for several reasons. The common theme of celebrating Diwali is the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.The five days festival is celebrated throughout India, marking the start of the Hindu New Year. The exact date changes each year, determined by the position of the moon – but it usually falls between October and November. On this day, people worship the Hindu goddess Laxmi and invite the goddess of wealth to their homes.
The Government of India issued this stamp on the festival Diwali on 21 September 2017. The stamp features Diya at the bottom.
