We are familiar with the story of Indian independence and the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the Champaran struggle. The person behind the Champaran struggle was Raj Kumar Shukla.

Raj Kumar Shukla convinced Mahatma Gandhi to visit Champaran, which later led to the Champaran Satyagraha. Champaran, a region in Bihar, has a historical significance. Raj Kumar Shukla was a farmer but emerged as a forefront leader of the struggle against discrimination by the colonial power in the Champaran region. He played a major role in constructing a gigantic mass movement in the soil of Champaran. He acted as a silent mobilizing force when M K Gandhi came to Champaran in 1917 for the first time.

The Government of India issued this commemorative stamp on Raj Kumar Shukla in 2018 to commemorate him and his work.
