Albania issued a 2000 Lek banknote with the bust of king Gentius in 2000. These notes are part of the current Albanian Lek banknotes series. These notes are still in circulation.Gentius was the king of Illyrian, belonging to the Labeatan dynasty. He was the last ruler of the Lebeatan dynasty, who ruled between 181 and 168 BC. His father Pleuratus III had good relations with Rome. During his reign in 180 BC, he allied with the Romans against Macedonians, but in 169 BC, he changed sides and allied himself with Perseus of Macedon.
The obverse side of this 2000 Albanian Leke depicts the bust of king Gentius facing towards the right, and to the left side of the note, Roman era coins with his image in front of king Gentius. The reverse side of this banknote depicts the ruins of the amphitheatre in Butrint, one of Albania’s most important archaeological sites.
