Gopinath Kaviraj Commemorative Stamp

Gopinath Kaviraj was born on 7th September 1887; in Dhaka. He was an Indian Sanskrit scholar, Indologist, and philosopher. He completed his education at Dhaka and Jaipur; he later obtained a Master's Degree in Sanskrit from the Government Sanskrit College, Varanasi.In 1914 he was appointed as a librarian; later, he became the Principal of Government Sanskrit College, Varanasi. He also served as editor of the Sarasvati Bhavana Granthamala. Gopinath Kaviraj will always be remembered for his editions of 72 Sanskrit works, which he published through the Sarasvati Bhavana Granthamala, Varanasi. He also wrote a book on Tantra literature and Indian culture. In 1934, British Government honored him with the title Mahamahopadhyaya. The government of India honored him with the award Padma Vibhushan in 1964.
