Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit Commemorative Stamp

Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit was an Indian diplomat, politician, and the sister of the first prime minister of Independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru.Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit served as the 8th president of the United Nations General Assembly between 1953 and 1954. She had also served as 6th Governor of Maharashtra between 1962 and 1964. Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit was the first woman to be appointed to either post. She was the first Indian woman to hold a cabinet post in pre-independent India. She was sent to London as India's most important diplomat after serving as Nehru's envoy to the Soviet Union, the United States, and the United Nations.
The Government of India issued her commemorative stamp in 2000 to commemorate her and her work.
