Slovenia Celebrates 10th Anniversary of the Euro

2022-08-09 Tue

On 1 January 2007 Slovenia adopted the euro, becoming the first of the ten member states that joined the last enlargement of the EU in 2004. The national currency, the tolar, stopped circulating after 15 years of validity. Slovenia marks the 10th anniversary of the euro in Slovenia with a 2017 circulating commemorative 2 Euros coin.

The design shows 10 flying swallows that form a circle. At the lower right, in semi-circle, the inscription translates to “10 years of the common European currency.” At the left, the curved inscription includes the nation’s name and the year date of issue.

The reverse carries the common European map design. The 12 stars of the European flag appear on both sides of the ringed-bimetallic 2 Euros coin.
