South Sudan is a landlocked country in east/centre Africa. The border of the country touches Ethiopia in the east, Sudan in the north, the Central African Republic in the west, the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the southwest, Uganda in the south and Kenya in the southeast. Recently, it gained independence from the Republic of Sudan in 2011. The country’s population is composed majorly of Nilotic people and half the population is under 18 years. The pound is the official currency of South Sudan which is further sub-divided into 100 piasters. The Sudanese pound ceased to be legal tender in South Sudan on 1st September 2011.
