Mukhtayar Ahmad Ansari Commemorative Stamp

Mukhtayar Ahmad Ansari was an Indian nationalist and political leader. He was the former president of the Indian National Congress and Muslim league during the Indian Independence movement. He was also a member of the Foundation Committee of Jamia Millia Islamia, a prominent Islamic university established in 1920 in Delhi.

In 1898, when he was a student in Madras, he attended his first All India Congress Sessions, presided by Anand Mohan Bose. Mukhtayar Ahmad Ansari was involved in the Indian Independence Movement during his stay in London. He moved back to Delhi and joined Indian National Congress and Muslim League.

He played a vital role in the 1916 Lucknow pact and Khilafat Movement. He was an outspoken supporter of the Khilafat movement. The government of India issued his commemorative stamp in 1980, to commemorate him and his work.
