Commemorative Stamps on Indian Meteorological Department

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is an agency of the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India. This agency is responsible for meteorological observations, weather forecasting and seismology, formed in 1875. IMD is also one of the six Regional Specialized Meteorological Centers of the World Meteorological Organization.The headquarters of IMD is in New Delhi, and it operates hundreds of observation stations across India and Antarctica. The regional office of IMD is in Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Nagpur, Guwahati and New Delhi. The first meteorological observatories were established in India by the British East India Company.
The government of India issued a commemorative stamp on Indian Meteorological Department in 1975.
