Djibouti's 1000-Franc Banknote
2022-06-09 Thu
The Djiboutian franc is the currency of Djibouti. From 1884, when the French Somaliland protectorate was established, the French franc circulated alongside the Indian rupee and the Maria Theresa thaler. From 1908, francs circulating in Djibouti were legally fixed at the value of the French franc.Between 1910 and 1915, banknotes were introduced in denominations of 5, 20 and 100 francs. The decline in the value of the French franc following World War I caused 500 and 1000 franc banknotes to be introduced in 1927 and 1938, respectively.
The above banknote is a 1000 francs banknote issued in the year 2005. The banknote is in red with hints of blue and yellow. Its obverse depicts men with shovels, a camel, and tram cars. It also bears a close-up image of Ali Ahmed Oudoum who was a politician. The back of this banknote displays a port with cranes and container ships.
