2022-05-09 Mon

The tenge is the currency of Kazakhstan which in Kazakh and in most other Turkic languages means a set of scales. The origin of the word is the Mongolic word teng which means "being equal or balanced". On 15 November 1993, the National Bank of Kazakhstan issued the first set of notes and the second series was introduced in 2006 which is far more exotic than its predecessors.

Given above is the 10,000 Tenge note issued in 2006. The banknotes have the same obverse side which depicts the Nur-Sultan Bayterek monument, Kazakhstan flag, Kazakhstan coat of arms, handprint with a signature of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, fragments of the national anthem, value in numerals, and Kazakh words.

The reverse on this banknote features the Ministry of Finance and Akimat (City Hall) of Astana/Nur-Sultan, an outline map of Kazakhstan with gulls over the sea in the background, value in Russian, name of issuing in Kazakh, the logo of issuing bank, inscription in Russian stating that counterfeiting banknotes are against the law.
