Greek God Poseidon on Banknote
2022-05-03 Tue
Poseidon is an ancient Greek god of sea, earthquake, and horses. He is considered the violent and ill-tempered god of the sea. Poseidon is depicted as a mature man with a sturdy build and dark beard holding a trident. He is perhaps the most disruptive of all the ancient Greek gods, but he was not always a negative force. He is considered the protector of mariners and, as a tamer of horses, the patron of that animal and horse breeding. The Bank of Greece issued this 50 Drachma in the year 1978. The obverse side of these banknotes depicts a bust of Poseidon facing right. The reverse side of the note depicts, ships sailing and a male and female sailor operating a canon. These Banknotes were withdrawn from circulation in 1986.
