This gold Dinara issued by Gupta Emperor Samudragupta; is listed for INR 6,00,000 in the upcoming auction of Todywalla, which will be held in Mumbai on April 23, 2022.King Samudragupta was the son of Chandragupta I and Kumardevi. Samudragupta was a military genius; he added many territories to the Gupta Empire after sitting on the throne of the Gupta Empire. Samudragupta extended his region of his kingdom from the Himalayas in the north to the Krishna and Godavari rivers in the south and from Balkh (Afghanistan) in the west to the Brahmaputra River in the east.
This Lyrist type gold dinar weighs around 7.63g. The obverse side of this gold mohur depicts a king seated on a high-backed throne, playing the veena, and the letter ’Si’ in Brahmi on a footstool for siddham (luck), legend Maharajadhiraja Sri Samudraguptah in the margin. The reverse side of this coin depicts 'Lakshmi nimbate seated left on a wicker stool, holding a diadem fillet in her right hand and a cornucopia in the left, legend Samudraguptah in the right margin.
