Joseph Louis Barrow, popularly known as Joe Louis, was an American professional boxer who competed from 1934 to 1951. Nicknamed Brown Bomber, Louis is considered one of the greatest and most influential boxers of all time. Louis has not only dominated sports during his time, but he also transcended the color barrier and was cheered by Americans of all races.Joe Louis reigned as world heavyweight champion from 1937 until his temporary retirement in 1949. During his time, he successfully defended his title about 25 times.
