Rani Laxmibai is popularly known as the queen of Jhansi; she was the Maharani of Princely State of Jhansi between 1843 and 1853 and the wife of Maharaja GangadharRao. She is one of the greatest freedom fighters of India. She is one of the Indian women who changed the course of history through her courage, honour and patriotism.Rani Laxmibai was born as Manikarnika on November 19, 1828, in Varanasi, in a Marathi Karhade Brahmin family, her nick name was Manu. She was well trained in martial arts and became proficient in sword fighting and riding. She got married to Maharaja of Jhansi, GangadharRao, in 1842; after her marriage, she was called Laxmibai.
Rani Laxmibai played a vital role in the Indian freedom struggle against the British government.
