Bhakta Kanakadas Commemorative Stamp

Kanakadas was a Haridasa saint and philosopher, also known as Daasashreshta Kanakadasa. He is popularly known for his keertanas and ugabhoga, composed in the Kannada language for Carnatic music. He was a renowned; composer of Carnatic music, poet, reformer and musician. Kanakadas used simple Kannada language and native metrical forms for his compositions, just like Haridass.Kanakadas started his career as a warrior at Bankapura fort. In one of the battles, he got injured and; got saved miraculously. After this incident, he gave up his profession as a warrior and devoted himself to composing music, writing literature and explaining philosophy. He wrote around 240 Karnataka Music compositions.
This commemorative stamp was issued in 1990 to commemorate him and his work.
