Carlo Goldoni Commemorative Stamp

Carlo Osvaldo Goldoni was an Italian play writer and librettist of the Republic of Venice. He brought new realism and more credible characterization to the Italian stage. His works include; some of Italy's most famous and best-loved plays; he wrote more than 250 works in Italian, Venetian dialect, and French.

Carlo Goldoni got fascinated by theatre at a very young age and wrote his first play; at the age of 10. He is considered the founder of Italian realistic comedy. In 1734, in the diplomatic service, Goldoni became a poet of the Imer Company in Venice; and successively was appointed director of the S. Samuele and S. Giovanni Crisostomo theatres.

To commemorate Carlo Goldoni and his work, Monaco issued his commemorative stamp in 2007.
