The Gangas of Talakadu was one of the most celebrated royal dynasties of Karnataka. They provided the vital clues that existed between Tamilian culture and Karnataka. The Gangas of Talakadu area ruled by them is known as Gangawadi and Ganganadu. They conquered most of the part of Karnataka for about six centuries. The first capital of these dynasties was Kolar, also called Kolahala or Kuvalala. The capital of this dynasty was Talakadu, and the third capital of this dynasty was Makunda (near channapatna). Talakadu or Talkad was known as Dalavanapura and Gajaranya during the reign of the Gangas which covered Mysore, Mandya, Hassan, Bangalore, and Kolar Districts of Karnataka.This gold Gajapati Varaha coin that weighs around 3.91g was issued by Gangas of Talakadu during their rule. The obverse of this coin depicts An ornate Elephant standing to right, Kannada letter above. The reverse of this coin depicts Scrollwork with beautiful flowers. This coin is listed for INR 35000 in the upcoming online auction of Oswal Antiques that will be held in Mumbai on 19th February 2022.
