New Zealand Commemorates First Everest Climb

The Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s Series 7 bank notes were introduced in October 2015 with the release of the 5 and 10 Dollars denominations. Among them the 5 Dollars polymer notes honor the first man to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world.New Zealand mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary along with Tibetan Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, was the first man to reach the summit of Mt. Everest, the highest mountain in the world. This orange-blue-green colored banknote features a left profile effigy of Sir Edmund Hillary along with an image of Mt. Cook the highest peak in New Zealand and the Yellow-Eyed Penguin.
The reverse of the banknote mainly features the Yellow-Eyed Penguin with its Maori name HOIHO, the pink and purple Campbell Island Daisy and a view of Northwest Bay on Campbell Island.
