The Banco Central de Reserva del Peru started issuing these 100 Peruvian Sol banknotes in 2009 in 6 different denominations, including this 100 Peruvian Sol banknote.

This 100 Nuevos Soles banknote from Peru shows Jorge Basadre, considered to be the authority on the history of 19th and 20th century Peru. The back of the note depicts Gran Pajaten, the archaeological site in the cloud forests of the Peruvian Andes, famous for its mosaics and carvings thought to be from the Chachapoya cloud warriors.

Gran Pajaten is an archaeological site located in the Andean cloud forests of Peru. The principal buildings are decorated with slate mosaics displaying human, bird, and geometric motifs. Analysis of ceramic samples and radiocarbon dates show that the area was occupied as early as 200 BCE.
