The Param Vir Chakra (PVC) is India’s highest military decoration; it is awarded for conspiring bravery and for displaying distinguished acts of valor during wartime.Param Vir Chakra is a circular shape, bronze medal, one and three-eighths inches in diameter. The obverse side of this medal displays four replicas of Indra’s Vajra with the state emblem embosses in the center. The reverse side of this medal embossed Param Vir Chakra, both in Hindi and English, with two lotus flowers between the inscriptions. A sealed pattern of the decoration shall be deposited and kept.
The Param Vir Chakra is equivalent to the Victoria Cross in the United Kingdom and the Medal of Honor in the United States.
