Satyajit Ray was an Indian film director, scriptwriter, documentary filmmaker, author, essayist, lyricist, magazine editor, illustrator, calligrapher, and music composer. He was one of the greatest filmmakers in the world of cinema.

Satyajit Ray was born on 2nd May 1921; in Calcutta to Late Sukumar Ray, an eminent poet, and writer in the history of Bengali literature. After completing his graduation in 1940, he attended Tagore's Viswa-Bharati University. Satyajit Ray directed his first movie Pather Panchali in 1955 that won several International Awards and set Ray as a world-class director. He won a special lifetime achievement award, Acadamy Awards 1992. He was the second Indian to have won an Oscar in 1992.
