In August 2021, the National Bank of Ukraine put two new commemorative banknotes in circulation with denominations of 100 and 500 hryvnias. They were issued to celebrate to the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's Independence. The main drawing of the front side is a portrait of Hryhoriy Skovoroda; the main drawing of the reverse side is an image of the building of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

The commemorative banknote contains all the elements of protection of the 500 hryvnia banknote of the 2015 model. Additionally, on its obverse, in place of the watermark, a festive identity - “30 years of Independence of Ukraine” is applied by stencil printing with a special optically variable ink. This inscription gradually changes color when the angle of the banknote changes.
