Asiatic Society Commemorative Stamp

The Asiatic Society is an organization founded in India during company rule. During the time of foundation, it was named as ‘Asiatick Society’ during the time of its foundation, later in 1825, it was renamed as ‘The Asiatic Society. Later in 1832, it was again renamed to ‘The Asiatic Society of Bengal. Again in 1936, the name was renamed as the ‘The Royal Asiatic Society of Bengal’. Finally, on July 1, 1951, it was named ‘The Asiatic Society.

The Asiatic Society is the oldest center of learning and research in the whole continent of Asia, established in 1784, at the initiative of its Founder President, Sir William Jones. The society owns an art collection that includes paintings by Peter Paul Rubens and Joshua Reynolds.
