Stamp Honoring Irish Antarctic Explore

An Post release four special stamps to celebrate eight Irish explores who plays an important role in Antarctic expeditions that took place in the 1800s and the beginning of the 1900s. These researches are Ernest Shackleton, Tom Crean, Edward Bransfield, Patrick Keohane, Robert Forde, Francis Crozier as well as Brothers Mortimer an Tim Mccarthy.The Irishmen were active participates of the Antarctic expeditions during the so called ‘golden age’ of the exploration mission. They were member of various crews and made significant contribution to the exploration of the icy territory of the Antarctic. Illustrator David Rooney who produce the stamps, claimed that he wanted them to underline the impact these irish men had had on Antartics exploration.
