Teachers' Day Celebrated in Brunei

Brunie celebrates Teachers' Day on September 23. This holiday was established in Brunei to commemorate the birth of the ruler Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III.Omar Ali Saifuddien III is often called the Architect of Modern Brunei for paying importance to the education of his subjects. He introduced a number of reforms that guaranteed the citizens nominal fees for attending schools thus making education in Brunei accessible even to the poorest people. He also offered religious scholarships to students with the potential to continue their higher education overseas.
The Monetary Authority of Brunei Darussalam issued a 500 Brunei Dollars banknote. The banknote of lima ratus ringgit depicts the image of Omar Ali Saifuddin III, Bruneian paramount Ruler. Printed on the polymer note is the text ‘Negara Brunei Darussalam’.
