Rajputana Rifles 4th Battalion on Indian Stamp

India Post has released a commemorative postage stamp on the 4th Battalion of Rajputana Rifles on 12th February 2020.The stamp was released on the occasion of the bicentenary of Rajputana Rifles 4th Battalion at Udaipur, Rajasthan in a function.Established on 26th May 1820, the Rajputana Rifles 4th Battalion was raised from the brave squad who fought the battle of Kirkee in the year 1817. The Rajputana Rifles is the oldest rifle regiment and one of the senior-most regiment of the Indian Army as the First Battalion of the East India Company Native Army. The Battalion put on the name of the Most Distinguished officer – Sir James Outram”.
The battalion fought in wars in Persia, Burma, Afghanistan, Palestine and parts of North Africa and also took an active part in both World Wars. After the independence, the Battalion was renamed as 4th Battalion (Outram’s) the Rajputana Riffles. It took part in various wars such as Operation Polo of Hyderabad, the Indian Pakistan War of 1965 and 1971 and many more.
To honor the continuous service to the Nation for 2 Centuries, Indian Post has issued an Rs.5 stamp on 12th February 2020. The stamp depicts the battalion in action on the war front and marching along with its coat of Arms.
