On 25th February 2020, Robert A Siegel is going to conduct a sale of Ambassador J. William Middendorf II's specialized collection of U.S. Postmaster Provisionals 1847 issue. It also consists of 1851-57 issues with the emphasis on the 1 cent imperforate and perforated stamp, Pony Express, navy Department and Hawaii stamps. The most significant rarities with high bidding fetching caliber items like 13c Blue H.I. & U.S horizontal pair is also offered by the auction house for 70,000 US dollar.This 13 c blue pair is only recorded multiple of 1852 13 cent postage stamp. According to the auction house little is known about the origin of this pair, some assume they may have removed from the damaged cover. The auction house describes this pairs as ‘Crocker Type I &II original a horizontal pair used together, separated and rejoined, left stamp type I, right stamp type II, margins clear of frame line to slightly in, large at the top, bold 7-bar grid cancels struck three times typing pair together’.
