Seychelles officially the Republic of Seychelles is an archipelago country in the Indian Ocean. The Seychelles is an archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, off East Africa. It is home to numerous beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves, as well as rare animals such as giant Aldabra tortoises. Mahe, a hub for visiting the other islands, is home to capital Victoria. It also has the mountain rainforests of Morne Seychellois National Park and beaches, including Beau Vallon and Anse Takamaka.The national currency of Seychelles is the Seychellois Rupee. It is subdivided into 100 cents. In the local Seychellois Creole language, it is called the roupi. Seychelles is the smallest country to have an independent monetary policy.
Today we are looking at a 50 Rupees banknote from 1998. The obverse has Seychellois Coat of Arms (depicted: shield, giant tortoise, coconut tree, blue sea, two islands, sailing ship, silver helmet, tropic bird, two swordfish) to left top corner with an outline map of Seychelles below it. Royal angel fish and Angranthes Pailleen Queue orchids in centre with a Turtle as see-through registration device to the right can be seen.
The reverse depicts Cowrie sea shells to left top with cars parked near the Clock Tower (Little Ben) in Victoria, Mahe. Yellow Fin Tuna in centre with "Tiomitio" bird - White-throated Rail or Cuvier's Rail can be seen centre-right. This green note has an Aldabra giant tortoise as is watermark.
