Otho seizes power in Rome

Otho was Roman Emperor for three months from 15 January to 16th April 69. He was the second emperor of the Year of the Four Emperors.In his aspiration to become a Roman emperor, he supported Galba. There came a time when his dreams were endangered and the aftereffect of this revelation resulted in a revolt and assassination of Emperor Galba and his adopted heir. After this action, he proclaimed himself as Emperor of Rome on 15th January, 69.
Otho also issued coins of different denominations, the above-shown gold Aureus was circulated in 69 AD. The coin consists of the portrait of Otho on the obverse and goddess of agriculture and grain is depicted on the reverse side holding two corn-ears and cornucopia.
The above-shown coin is silver Denarius issued under his reign from Rome. The obverse of a coin depicts the bare head of Otho. On the other hand the reverse of a coin engraved Vesta, veiled, seated left holding patera and scepter.
