The Floral Postage Due Stamps of French Andorra

2020-01-03 Fri

Andorra stamps reflect the rather interesting stature of this tiny "principality", located in the Eastern Pyrenees Mountains, between Spain and France. Andorra is the sixth-smallest nation in Europe. The nation is located in very mountainous terrain.

Before 1928, Andorrans sent their letters and packages from post offices across the border in Spain or France, using the postage stamps of those countries. Since 1931, the postage stamps of Andorra have been issued by both the Spanish and the French administrations.

The stamps of French Andorra are unique and exceptional which also includes their Postage Due stamps. Postage due is the term used for mail sent with insufficient postage. A postage due stamp is a stamp added to an underpaid piece of mail to indicate the extra postage due.

The first Postage Due French Andorra stamps were created, beginning in 1931, by overprinting the 1893-1941 and 1927-1931 Postage Due stamps of the Republic of France. Postage Due stamps, specifically designed for French Andorra, were introduced in 1935.

Between the year 1964 and 1971, the French Andorra post issued a set of seven Postage Due stamps with the denominations of 0.05 Cents to 0.50 Cents. The new designs feature flowering plants in the center such as Poppy, Gentianm, Corn Poppy, Violets, Forget-me-not, Columbine, and Clover.
