2020-01-03 Fri
Rwanda, officially the Republic of Rwanda, is a country in Central Africa and one of the smallest countries on the African mainland. Located a few degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda is bordered by Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.Rwanda's developing economy is based mostly on subsistence agriculture. Coffee and tea are the major cash crops for export. Tourism is a fast-growing sector and is now the country's leading foreign exchange earner. The economy is managed by the central National Bank of Rwanda and the currency is the Rwandan franc. It is subdivided into 100 centimes.
Today we are looking at 100 Francs banknote issued in 1989. The obverse depicts a herd of Plains zebras to right and centre; Coat of Arms of the Republic of Rwanda between 1962 and 2001 and flowers in left bottom. The reverse features a Rwandan mother carrying her baby on her back to left and Volcanoes National Park with Mount Bisoke and Mount Karisimbi in the centre background.
This dark violet banknote has a head of Antelope Impala as its watermark.
