Lewis and Clark Exposition Gold Dollar

The Lewis and Clark Expedition was the military expedition; this expedition was led by Capt. Meriwether Lewis and Lieut. William Clark, to explore the Louisiana Purchase and the Pacific Northwest. Their expedition began in the year 1804; when President Thomas Jefferson tasked Meriwether Lewis with exploring lands west of the Mississippi River that comprised the Louisiana Purchase. This expedition of Lewis and Clark is considered one of the major chapters in the history of American exploration.The United States of America had issued this commemorative gold dollar with the theme of Lewis and Clark Exposition in the year 1904. The obverse of this coin depicts an image of Meriwether Lewis in profile. The reverse of this coin depicts an image of William Clark in profile.
