The United States of America had issued this commemorative half dollar with the theme of state Illinois in the year 1918. This commemorative half dollar was issued by the United States of America to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the admission of Illinois into the Union.

Illinois is a state of the United States of America situated in the Midwestern and Great Lakes region of the United States of America. It is the sixth most populous state of the United States and the 25th largest states in terms of land and area. The Central and Northern Illinois is the land of great agricultural productivity. Southern s Illinois is very rich in natural resources such as coal, timber, and petroleum. Illinois has a diverse economic base and is a major transportation hub.

The obverse of this half dollar depicts the bust of President Abraham Lincoln facing towards the right. This portrait is taken from the heroic statue that was unveiled at Springfield, Illinois, in August 1918. The statue was by the American sculptor Andrew O'Connor. The reverse design is based on the Illinois State Seal.
