This gold mohur issued by Shah Jahan during 14th year of his reign in the Hijri year 1050 is listed for INR 70,000 in the upcoming auction of Todywalla which will be held in Mumbai on 21st September 2019.
Shah Jahan was the fifth Mughal Emperor of India. He was one of the greatest rulers of the Mughal Empire. He was born as Prince Khurram to the Mughal Emperor Jahangir in the year 1592 CE. He is best known for ‘Taj Mahal’ which he built in the memory of his beloved wife ‘Mumtaz Mahal’. Another one of his famous creations is the Peacock Throne. His reign is also described as ‘Golden Age’ of the Mughal Empire.
The obverse of this coin is inscribed as Shah Jahan Badshah Gazi and AH Date and RY in quatrefoil, Starting 9 o'clock Shihabuddin Muhammad Sahib Qiran Shani and mint name in margins around. The reverse of this coin is inscribed as ‘Kalima in Quaterfoil and names of caliphs in the margins around’.
