Peru is a country in South America that's home to a section of Amazon rainforest. It is famous for the Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan city high in the Andes Mountains. The region around Machu Picchu, including the Sacred Valley, Inca Trail and colonial city of Cusco, is rich in archaeological sites. On Peru’s arid Pacific coast in Lima, the capital, there are with a preserved colonial centre and important collections of pre-Columbian art.

The banknote depicted in the image beside is 100 Inti note issued in the year 1985. The note specifications are as follows:

The obverse: The portrait of Jose Gabriel Condorcanqui Tupac Amaru II to right with the Coat of Arms in centre. Tupac Amaru II (1738-1781) was the leader of an indigenous uprising in 1780 against the Spaniards in colonial Peru. Although unsuccessful, he later became a mythical figure in the Peruvian struggle for independence and indigenous rights movement and an inspiration to a myriad of causes in Peru.

Reverse: Depicts an Alpinist to centre left bottom with snow-capped mountains in the centre background.
