Commemorative Banknotes Celebrate 75th Anniversary of Lasi-Chisinau Operation

The Transnistrian Republican Bank started circulating 1 ruble commemorative banknotes to celebrate “75 years of the Iasi-Chisinau operation” from 20th August. The banknote format and designs are similar to 1 ruble notes that were released in 2012. An additional inscription on the commemorative note reads "75 YEARS OF THE YASSK-CHISINAU OPERATION 1944-2019". Extra elements like a memorial stele, a laurel branch and a St. George ribbon have also been included.

1,500 pieces of such notes have been released. Special booklets have been designed to hold each note. These notes have been released as legal tender within the territory of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic.

The Jassy–Kishinev Operation or Iasi-Chisinau operation took place during World War II in Eastern Romania from 20th to 29th August 1944. It was initiated by the Soviet forces to free Moldavian SSR from the Axis forces that had occupied the region. 2nd and 3rd Ukrainian Fronts of the Soviet Army took assistance from German and Romanian soldiers from Army Group South Ukraine in this operation. With the help of this operation, the Soviet Army also got access to Romania and the Balkans.
