Yazid Ibn Muawiya is often known as Yazid I was the second Caliph of the Umayyad Caliphate reigning from 680 to 683. He was the first person in the history of the caliphate to be nominated as heir based on a blood relationship, and this became a tradition afterward.

The battle of al Harra has fought between the Syrian army of the Yazid I and the local defenders of Madina. The battle took place at the lava field of Harrat Waqim northeast of Medina on 26 August 683. Yazid I's army kills 11,000 people of Medina including notable Sahabas in Battle of al-Harrah.
