Irish Stamp mark 100 years of first transatlantic flight

To celebrate 100th anniversary of the first transatlantic flight. This special item depicts the plane flown by aviators Alcock and Brown who o June 15th 1919 become the first to cross the Atlantis Ocean in less than 72 hours. On the item the airplane is featured on a beautifully cloudy background with Atlantic Ocean posing a constant threat to the aviators.British pilot Capt. John Alcock and Lt Arthur Whitten Brown changed worldwide Aviation forever when boarded their modified First World War Vickers Vimy bomber in Newfoundland and crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Ireland making it the first ever successful non-stop transatlantic flight. This effort earned them a great reputation and also the prise of 10,000 pounds that was offered by the newspaper ‘The Daily Mail’. The flight began in Newfoundland and they landed 16 hours later in Galway Ireland.
