Multan is one of the oldest city of Asian subcontinents; today it is situated in the city of Punjab, Pakistan. It is the 7th largest city of Pakistan and also the major cultural and economic center of southern Punjab. The Multan is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Mulasthana’ which is named after a Sun Temple. But, some expert also says that the word Multan is derived from the Persian word ‘mulastana’ which means ‘frontier land’. During the medieval period at the time of Mahabharata, it was the capital of Trigarta Kingdom ruled by the Katoch Dynasty.
During the medieval period, it was an important trading center and mercantile center in a setting of the political stability offered by the Delhi Sultanate, the Lodis, and Mughals.
