Birth Anniversary of Ravishankar Shukla

Ravishankar Shukla, an eminent Political leader of Indian Independence Movement and Indian National Congress was born today on 2nd August 1877. He was the first Chief Minister of the recognized Madhya Pradesh State from 1st November 1956 until his death on 31st December 1956.Ravishankar Shukla was born in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh to Pandit Jagganath Shukla and Tulsi Devi. Before joining politics, he devoted himself to the upliftment of society. From the year 1915 Pt. Shukla attended every Congress Session held annually.
In 1937, when India acquired partial power, he became the Education Minister for a few months. During his Chief Minister Ship, there was an all-round development of Madhya Pradesh. The state of Madhya Pradesh remained fully peaceful during his regime.
He proved himself as a very successful administrator. The introduction of various schemes, establishing of industries, commissioning of Bhilai Steel Plant and starting off many universities were among the great achievements.
To honor him India Postal Department has issued 100 Paise commemorative postage stamp in 1992.
