The tale of rare US one-cent, which can fetch $40,000 was found by a man in his late grandmother’s possessions. The copper penny was produced at the Philadelphia Mint in early 1793 with ‘Liberty Head Chain Cent’ was the first regular copper coinage of the United States. This coin is rare as it was stick with a damaged die that left part of the chain circle obverse image across liberty’s head.

Many American collectors were prominent bidders for this coin when it goes under the hammer at the Noble Numismatics Sale at the State Library of NSW.
