Indian Dak Runners Appear on Special Cover of Punpex 2016

A Special cover brought out on 06.02.2016 at Punpex, Chandigarh depicting the “Indian Dak Runner”.Dak Runner was a classic mode of transporting mail. For many years, the Dak was being carried through a very old postal system of Runners, which was eventually terminated during the times of British East India Company.
A special cover was released to remember this old mail transport system. The Special Cover is titled “Bhartiya Dak Harkara” (in Hindi) and “Indian Dak Runner” (in English).
There is an image of the Harkara sending mail across a river through a rope-pulley to the other side.
The best feature of this cover is that it bears the signature of the Harkara appears as “Gaurav” even though many of the Harkaras were illiterate.
