Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809, in Kentucky. He was the 16th President of the Unites States of America and served from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865.

He led the United States through its Civil War and its moral, constitutional, and political crisis. He preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy.

Lincoln appears on the 5 dollar banknotes, one cent and one dollar coins of USA. Many stamps of USA have Abraham Lincoln on them. He appears on definitive stamps of USA from 1866 to 1966. In 1909 a first commemorative stamp was issued to celebrate the centenary of his birth anniversary.

He is by far the single most pictured American on postage stamps worldwide. Many countries like Liberia, Rwanda, Solomon Islands, Republic of San Marino, China, Ghana, Togo, Maldives, Monaco, and etc have honoured this extraordinary man on their stamps.
